Honeycomb integration

In short

Run queries over your traces and events, read triggers, add markers. Connect it on the Integrations page; your app then calls Honeycomb through Sapilon without ever holding a Honeycomb credential.

Lets your app list datasets, run queries over traces and events, read triggers and add deploy markers in a Honeycomb environment.

Connecting

On the Integrations page choose Connect on Honeycomb and fill in:

  • Region — api for US, api.eu1 for EU.
  • Configuration key — Honeycomb → Environment settings → API keys → Create configuration key with “Run queries”, “Manage queries and columns” and “Manage markers”.

Sapilon checks the key with the provider before it saves it, and stores it encrypted; it is never shown again.

  • Running queries through the API needs a Honeycomb Enterprise plan.

What your app can do

Only these requests are available; anything else is refused.

  • GET /auth
  • GET /datasets
  • GET /datasets/*
  • POST /queries/*
  • POST /query_results/*
  • GET /query_results/*/*
  • GET /triggers/*
  • GET|POST /markers/*

How the agent uses it

Use integrations.request('honeycomb', …); paths are relative to https://api.honeycomb.io/1.

  • GET /auth, GET /datasets, GET /datasets/{slug}.
  • A query is three calls: POST /queries/{dataset} with the spec → id; POST /query_results/{dataset} with { query_id, disable_series: true } → result id; poll GET /query_results/{dataset}/{resultId} until complete. Example spec: { time_range: 3600, calculations: [{ op: 'P99', column: 'duration_ms' }], filters: [{ column: 'service.name', op: '=', value: 'checkout' }] }.
  • GET /triggers/{dataset}.
  • GET|POST /markers/{dataset} — body: { message: 'Deploy 1.4', type: 'deploy' }; __all__ marks every dataset.

Deleting is not allowed.
